Summary

Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers team up to crack an unsolvable case in this thrilling new novel by John Sandford。

Alex Sand was spending the evening at home playing basketball with his two young sons when all three were shot in cold blood。 A wealthy federal judge, there’s no short list of people who could have a vendetta against Sands, but the gruesome murders, especially that of his children, turn their St。 Paul community on its head。 Sand was on the verge of a major donation to a local housing charity, Heart/Twin Cities, and with the money in limbo, eyes suddenly turn to his grieving widow, Margaret Cooper, to see what she might do with the money。 Margaret, distraught over the death of her family, struggles to move forward, and can’t imagine how or why anyone would target her husband。

With public pressure mounting and both the local police force and FBI hitting dead end after dead end, Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers are called in to do what others could not: find answers。 With each potential lead flawed, Davenport and Flowers are determined to chase every theory until they figure out who killed the Sands。 But when they find themselves being stonewalled by the most unlikely of forces, the two wonder if perhaps each misdirection could lead them closer to the truth。

(3 1/2)。 Always nice to spend some time with Lucas and Virgil。 This one is really easy to take in because Sanford lets the story roll out very smoothly。 Lucas and Virgil are in the front cabin, but they do not overwhelm the very fun plot。 Sure the layers peel back a little more easily than they should, but that is normal in the world of these guys。 A couple of nice twists and turns, especially towards the end and at the absolute end。 These books are true comfort reading for me。 Sanford is a must (3 1/2)。 Always nice to spend some time with Lucas and Virgil。 This one is really easy to take in because Sanford lets the story roll out very smoothly。 Lucas and Virgil are in the front cabin, but they do not overwhelm the very fun plot。 Sure the layers peel back a little more easily than they should, but that is normal in the world of these guys。 A couple of nice twists and turns, especially towards the end and at the absolute end。 These books are true comfort reading for me。 Sanford is a must read author on my list and this one fits right in。 Who is up next? Hard to beat Davenport and Flowers in the same book! Quite a plot or maybe a couple of plots!

I am really never happier than when I am curled up with Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers。 I cannot believe this is the 33rd book in the series。 In this book, they investigate the brutal killing of a federal judge and his two young sons。 Nothing overly surprising, a good police procedural with a few twists。 Really, its the banter between Lucas and Virgil that keeps me hooked。。。and giggling。

Wayne Bilow

Another winner for Sandford。 This is definitely one of his best。 Vergil and Lucas go after a murder of a father and his two sons。 The wife is out for revenge。 A must read。

Love that Sandford has paired up Davenport & Virgil in another good thriller。 What a pair! The storyline was great & payback is a bitch! Loved it。

3。5 stars。 Love the interplay between Lucas and Virgil。 They’re called in to work on a triple murder case ( a father and his two sons are murdered)。 The FBI and the police are also looking into the case。 It was interesting how Lucas and Virgil narrow down the suspect。 What I didn’t enjoy was the mother, Cooper。 The author didn’t dive into her relationship with her family and also she did not appear to be so distraught over the death of her two sons

Detailed, fast ride through seemingly non-related incidents。 Mr。 Sandford weaves another page turner。Sit back, read, enjoy, and wait as patiently as possible for the next book in the Davenport / Flowers series。

I look forward to a Davenport & Flowers novel。 This time the unfinished ending really upset me so I can't give it a resounding "BUY THIS" as I normally do。 AND I BOUGHT IT not waiting for the library copy like I normally do with expensive Best Sellers。Alex Sand and his 2 young sons are murdered in their home。 Baby Cecilia is left alive crying in her crib。 Margaret Cooper comes home to the massacre of her family。 Who was the target。? An enjoyable return to the Twin Cities for Lucas and Virgil。 Could use some more editing (old man language in the voices of younger and female characters) and plot holes but an interesting and surprising plot that leaves some loose ends。

Lucas Davenport is once again teamed with Virgil Flowers to find the murderer of a federal judge and his two sons。 The wife and infant daughter survived the attack。 The wife was not home when the murders took place。 The investigation leads to a man who runs several charities and maybe a con man。 Lucas and Virgil finally zeroed in on in on the person guilty of killing the family, but also results in the murders of two people involved in the charity investigation。 An interesting sub plot is the ex Lucas Davenport is once again teamed with Virgil Flowers to find the murderer of a federal judge and his two sons。 The wife and infant daughter survived the attack。 The wife was not home when the murders took place。 The investigation leads to a man who runs several charities and maybe a con man。 Lucas and Virgil finally zeroed in on in on the person guilty of killing the family, but also results in the murders of two people involved in the charity investigation。 An interesting sub plot is the examination of the effect of the family murders on the wife and mother。 She becomes obsessed with seeking her definition of justice。 An interesting treatment of victim’s dealing with the tragic events。 。。。more

In 1989, my father, an avid reader of fiction, plopped a book down on the kitchen table and said to me with a grin, "You're going to like this。" He was right。 Rules of Prey was great, and Sandford rules (pun intended) again with Judgement Prey。 In 1989, my father, an avid reader of fiction, plopped a book down on the kitchen table and said to me with a grin, "You're going to like this。" He was right。 Rules of Prey was great, and Sandford rules (pun intended) again with Judgement Prey。 。。。more

A thoroughly enjoyable book。 A good plot, good writing and interesting characters。 Too much foul language to be rated any higher but the main characters are cops so understandable even if inexcusable。

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC of Judgment Prey by John Sandford。 I always look forward to the next installment in the Prey series。 Add Virgil Flowers and it definitely goes to the top of my TBR pile。 This was not my favorite in the series mostly due to the case they were trying to solve。 I really couldn't buy into it。 I also did not care for any of the other characters in the book, lacked a lot of depth for me。The abrupt ending is what made this one drop from 4 to 3 stars。 I actually thought Thank you NetGalley for the eARC of Judgment Prey by John Sandford。 I always look forward to the next installment in the Prey series。 Add Virgil Flowers and it definitely goes to the top of my TBR pile。 This was not my favorite in the series mostly due to the case they were trying to solve。 I really couldn't buy into it。 I also did not care for any of the other characters in the book, lacked a lot of depth for me。The abrupt ending is what made this one drop from 4 to 3 stars。 I actually thought the last chapter was missing pages, such a let down。 。。。more

John Sandford always delivers a good story。 Virgil Flower teams with Lucas Davenport to investigate a federal magistrate's death。 Everything is complicated by the victim's wife wanting to seek her own revenge。 Cat and mouse games ensue with suspects from a gym as well as a con artist seeking funding to Homeless housing。 Denouement is nebulas。 John Sandford always delivers a good story。 Virgil Flower teams with Lucas Davenport to investigate a federal magistrate's death。 Everything is complicated by the victim's wife wanting to seek her own revenge。 Cat and mouse games ensue with suspects from a gym as well as a con artist seeking funding to Homeless housing。 Denouement is nebulas。 。。。more

This is perhaps the first Sandford book I read that I didn't love。 It, however was enjoyable but something was a little off and a bit soap opera or Ms。 Marple about it with two female friends trying to solve a murder。 The writing is as good as ever and the relationship of Lucas and Virgil always fun to read。 It's just the plot and those soap opera characters that threw me off。 Since the beginning of COVID I bought almost all of Sandford's Lucas Davenport book (old and newer) and loved most。 This is perhaps the first Sandford book I read that I didn't love。 It, however was enjoyable but something was a little off and a bit soap opera or Ms。 Marple about it with two female friends trying to solve a murder。 The writing is as good as ever and the relationship of Lucas and Virgil always fun to read。 It's just the plot and those soap opera characters that threw me off。 Since the beginning of COVID I bought almost all of Sandford's Lucas Davenport book (old and newer) and loved most。 。。。more
